IMS Engage: Pete Tong (BBC Radio 1 / Evolution)
“IN CONVERSATION” with Shelly Finkel (SFX)

The first IMS Engage took place on Wednesday April 17th at the W Hotel in Hollywood, CA. Presented by the International Music Summit from Ibiza, the event drew in global attendees from electronic music and associated industries. IMS Engage consisted of six pairings, a platform designed to show how far the genre reaches with speakers from finance, technology, hip-hop and beyond.

SFX’s Shelly Finkel chatted with Pete Tong, who pushed Finkel on SFX’s strategy in the dance community. Finkel indicated SFX isn’t done buying, saying ‘there’s plenty of money left,’ hinted at ID+T’s expansion in America this year with Sensation, Q-Dance and Tomorrow World events, and the importance of Beatport as a platform for SFX. He also revealed that SFX uses the term EMC (Electronic Music Culture), rather than EDM, saying that it’s the fans experience and interaction with the culture, as much as the music that is driving its popularity.

When an audience member asked Finkel what events could lead to the burst of the EDM ‘bubble’, Finkel pointed out: “By doing things for the sake of doing and not making smart business decisions. When people get hurt, they eventually get out.”

Finkel was intent in demonstrating that he and SFX share a genuine connection with electronic music and are not just out to seek the highest possible gain. He recounted attending EDC events as his first entry point and feeling a true magical moment of inspiration.

Where to start! Sarah is a personality and once you’ve met her you never for get her! She works hard as a dj and try’s to infuse every set she plays with her personality, taking the crowd on a musical journey.

She plays a mixed bag as she believes every crowd should be judged differently and has different wants an needs to get the best atmosphere and involvement! She specialized in House music and has played alongside some of the best house dj’s but is proving to be a stand out dj in multiple genres, playing along side the Wideboys on the Ministry of Sound Addicted to Bass tour and also Along side Radio 1xtra Dj Nick Bright on MOS urban Anthems tour!

Sarah is from East London /Essex, although she is far from the TOWIE type! She didn’t start off in music like most she started out as a published model and entertainer doing fire shows and performing at events all over the world but this meant she was surrounded my the music industry. Sarah has always had a love for music and although starting in the Dj scene late she is making up for lost time and proving her self to be a stand out female dj, working hard to achieve all she has and gain the respect as a female dj with skills in her own right.

She started djing in late 2009 in a dj competition at her local club after being challenged by another dj, little did she know it would turn into her a career of passion and take here all over the world. After a mere month she was sharing a slot on shine radio and loved it, it was a whole new platform to be heard and her djing was going from strength to strength.
Now a few years on and Sarah has played all over the world, Majorca, Greece, Ibiza, Dubai, Egypt, Portugal, Marbella and all over the Uk. Being a resident tour DJ for Ministry of sound as well as headlining the Egypt venue, fashion tv, as well as brands an events such as Christian Audigier, Sugarhut Essex, Ibiza Live Bar, Pukka Up Bar, Hed kandi Ibiza, Hush, Indie Rocks, Ibiza Rocks Hotel, Kinki Malinki Marbella and Aura just to name a few!

For the last 3 years she has been a resident playing in Ibiza through out the summer (although also jetting off to play other venues and events too) some of her highlights over the 3 years include, playing Eden, EsParadis, Hush, Soul City, Ibiza Rocks Hotel, Hed Kandi bar. Most recently in 2012 she was resident in Pukka Up bar and also played at Ocean Beach club, and Plastic Beach club, even after saying she may not venture there in 2013 Ibiza is a hard place to not venture to as a dj!

Dubai was sarah’s next venture and she played there for 6 weeks at the end of 2012, loving the heat and great people she accepted and offer to play at White Beach Lounge on New Years eve which was amazing! She also became one of Loaded Mags sexy tour djs for 2013!

For 2013 Sarah has decided to step up her profile and push her first track –Take it from me, which is already showing great promise and has been signed! She has many more ideas for new tracks and wants to start pushing her producing an song writing skills so watch this space as she shows no signs of slowing down yet!

SPACE OPENING FIESTA

The Space Ibiza Opening Fiesta –that traditionally sets the beginning of the season- will take place the 26th of May from 12 noon. 

A large list of artists will perform during many hours on any of the six areas that we have enabled the appointment.

CAFÉ OLÉ

Café Olé changes its day and will now offer all its glamour and craziness every Monday from the 24th of June till the 16th of September. 

Bob Sinclar, Cedric Gervais, Chus + Ceballos, Erik Hagleton, Funkerman, Mat Zo, Porter Robinson, 

Prok & Fitch or René Amesz are only a few of the confirmed DJs who will share the DJ cabin with the residents Danny Leblack,

Carl Cox is one more season leading the Tuesday night. 

From July 9 to September 24 and under the new leitmotif `The Revolution - The Party Unites’ 

the techno king and all his entourage of artists –composed by Ben Sims, Davide Squillace, Dubfire, 

Laurent Garnier, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Masters At Work, Nic Faniulli, Seth Troxler, 

Umek or Uner, among others, will show us why they are now in charge for the 12th season.

IBIZA CALLING

Ibiza Calling moves to Wednesdays with a fully renovated concept. 

The mainstream sound par excellence brought by artists like Dannic, 

Dyro or Hardwell, among many others, 

will star on Wednesday night from June 19 until September 18.

ENTER

Richie Hawtin and ENTER. will come back to Space Ibiza this year after his outstanding breakthrough last summer on the island. 

They come with the aim to develop their technological innovations every Thursday night from July 4 to September 26.

CLANDESTIN

The Fridays will have an own name: CLANDESTIN. 

The new commitment of Space Ibiza, 

marked by eclecticism and led by resident Felix Da Housecat, 

will feature a range of artists from the greatness of Brodinski, 

Kraak & Smaak, TEED or Tiga and will take place from June 28 to  September 20.

KEHAKUMA

Kehakuma splits with ENTER. to take his own way in his fifth year of life. 

A party where musical taste prevails over the big names. 

Dinky, Droog, Gerd Janson, Nina Kraviz, San Soda, 

Steffi or Studio Barnhus are the first confirmations of Ibiza’s most electronic party that takes place from June 1 to October 3.

WE LOVE…

We Love will continue occupying the Sundays in Ibiza after more than fifteen years providing electronic uniqueness. 

Ben Ufo, Carl Craig, Henrik Schwarz, James Zabiela, 

Paul Woolford and Smokin Jo, to name a few, 

will be responsible for leading the first We Love dates, 

ranging from  June 9 until  September 29.

SPACE CLOSING FIESTA

Over 120 nights concentrated in a summer period culminating on October 6 with the Space Closing Fiesta, 

an event that puts an end to the busy summer in Ibiza. 

Undoubtedly, a season that seems to be one of the most complete of the recent years.
