Judge Jules Newsletter June 2012 #Ibiza2012

Judge Jules Newsletter

Judge JulesHi there and welcome to my newsletter for June,

This month’s newsletter comes to you a little earlier than usual. Partly because I’m fit to burst with news regarding our new season with Judgement Sundays in Ibiza and largely because this Friday is our pre-season party with The Gallery down at Ministry of Sound. So I thought I’d give you all the chance to clear your diaries in preparation for the weekend!

In an eventful month of final preparations for Judgement Sundays Ibiza, some heavily studio sessions and a busy schedule of touring, time to put my feet up and rest in May has been distinctly lacking. May began with a jaunt over to the Macedonian capital Skopje where I was booked for a show alongside one of Germany’s prime house DJ/Producers Tom Novy. The event was a White Party, with the crowd playing their part in suitable attire, matching the promoter’s impressive interior efforts that saw the Metropolis Arena awash in a world of visuals and white drapes. Then on the Sunday I returned to the UK for a set at H-club in Brighton as part of the Mayday Bank Holiday celebrations. In the week that proceeded the Mayday holiday I was invited to DJ at Arsenal’s annual end of season charity ball, with all the players in attendance. Over the years I’ve been fortune on a number of occasions to spin events for the club. It’s something I’m always incredibly excited to be a part of, as Arsenal are dear to my heart. The event raised over £300,000 for The Arsenal Foundation, which helps provide education and sports programmes for young people.

On Saturday 12th May, I boarded a flight to Los Angeles for a show at the mighty Vanguard. The club is a spectacular space, kitted out with a Funktion-One sound system that is capable of keeping the whole of Hollywood awake till the early hours. Over the years it has featured just about every major DJ going, and is a desired destination to play for any DJ travelling over to the West Coast. For those of you in America who have been following me on the airwaves over these past few years I’m pleased to publicise that my weekly ‘Global Warm Up’ show has spread its wings across the Atlantic and can now be picked up across the United States on the Sirius XM network. I’ll be unveiling more networks for the shows syndication over the coming weeks. In the meantime if there are any of you who’d like to hear the Global Warm Up in your region then I welcome your suggestions. Please email me on jules@judgejules.net

Last weekend I took a 3-hour flight to Helsinki (Finland) for a Cream Ibiza tour date in co-host with 2Ibiza at The Circus. Situated in the very heart of the Finnish capital, The Circus is a large venue spread over two clubs where patrons of the ‘music hall’ will find a mix of bands and DJs on any given weekend. My set was the headline slot on this particular evening, where I played to a brimming and highly charged dancefloor.

As most of you will know by now, next month sees the launch of our 2012 Judgement Sundays season in Ibiza. To mark the occasion we’re teaming up with our good friends at The Gallery for a massive pre-season party at Ministry of Sound. I’m really excited about this event because it’s always such a great gathering of summer compatriots and the atmosphere never fails to ignite the Ibiza appetite before the season begins! This year we’ve put together a bulging line-up of spinners with John O’Callaghan and Simon Patterson, two of Ireland’s biggest trance stars, alongside Oliver Lang, Ruff Loaderz and Sam Walker ? who will be manning the controls in the backroom for fellow Ibiza patrons Pukka Up! I’ll also be joining the guys in 103 for an exclusive house set as part of the evening’s shenanigans. It has been a while since I’ve done a house set so looking forward to digging out a few gems. For those of you keen to join us for this massive pre-season special  as an incentive to get us all in the Ibiza party spirit it is worth me mentioning that we’re offering free entry to all of those who turn up in beach wear, so dust down those boarder shorts and bikini tops people because the doors are nearly open!

June follows May in much the same fashion, with a plethora of DJ jaunts that will see me playing Run to the Sun festival in Newquay on the first Saturday (2nd) of the month. The line up for this year’s festival boasts some great names across the three days, including Pendulum, Jaguar Skills, DJ Hype, as well as Lisa Lashes, Richard Durand and some guy called Judge Jules. On the Sunday I’ll be playing my second slot in as many years for the Birmingham Pride festival, appearing at a new festival for me called Take Off festival which is being held in Southend and then later heading up to Digital Society in Leeds for their special co-host party with Ferry Corsten and his Full on Ferry brand. As well as myself, the night will feature sets from a whole hosts of DJs including Aly & Fila, Menno de Jong and a very special guest in Paul Oakenfold. Other dates in the month include Kiss Club in Portugal on 8th of June, Gatecrasher at the Gaudi Arena in Moscow, Russia (23rd) and then on the last Saturday (30th) of the month I’ll be in Swansea for Escape club, as well as playing a set in the PaSSion arena at Xstatic Summer festival in Derbyshire.

Alongside the aforementioned DJ adventures will be my weekly residencies at both Judgement Sundays in Ibiza and Judgement Night in Majorca, this year on Tuesdays. It has been a busy few months of planning but I’m really pleased with the final line ups for this season. I think we’ve put together a fantastic 15 week run of parties at JS Ibiza. I’m also very excited to be doing a series of co-host nights this season. Over the summer we’ll be doing joint parties with Ferry Corsten and his Full on Ferry brand, John O’Callaghan’s Subculture night and last but not least, Fire It Up with Eddie Halliwell. There will also be appearances from the likes of Michael Woods, Yasmin, BBC Radio 1’s new dance anthem’s champion Danny Howard, as well as a host of other talented DJs. Kicking off the season on June 10th, I’ll be joined by Kutski, Orjan Nilsen, Jordan Suckley, Tristan D, Majestic plus others. Tickets are available now via www.judgementsundays.co.uk

In studio news, I’m presently working on a remix for Armin van Buuren and I also have a new single forthcoming on Vandit. This time it’s a collaboration with Corderoy and is titled ‘Give Me A Reason’, I’ll announce the release down on my twitter in the next few weeks: Follow me here if you aren’t already: www.twitter.com/realjudgejules

And finally, for those of you who may not of seen I now have a new website where you can find my update to news, forthcoming DJ dates, my bi-weekly blog and download recent mixes. One you get a minute please take a look and let me know what you think: www.judgejules.net

#Defected founder Simon Dunmore has won an Outstanding Achievement award at this year’s #Ibiza International Music Summit.
Simon Dunmore Wins Outsanding Achievement Award

The award was presented to Dunmore by IMS co-founder Pete Tong after his keynote interview on Thursday at the Ibiza Gran Hotel where the IMS is taking place.

“It’s a complete honour” said Dunmore of recieving the award “especially as they don’t usually give these thing to such young people.

“It’s fantastic to have a lot of hard work recognised, but it’s not all about my own time and effort, it’s also down to all the amazing people I’ve had the opportunity to work with over the years. I’ve always tried to remain true to what I believe in with everything I’ve done throughout my career, and I this what we’ve achieved at Defected is a testament to that fact.

“Obviously it was a total surprise, if I’d had any idea I would have worn a better pair of shoes.”

BEAT & RAW, NEW PARTY @SPACE #IBIZA FRIDAYS

Beat & Raw will be the new Friday party at Space Ibiza. This is a new concept breaking conventions: an urban-feel party that plays with the stories of two characters, Beat and Raw, two friends who through circumstances of life decide to set off together on a trip to the island of Ibiza where they will live magic and unbelievable experiencies on the award-winning club Space Ibiza.

With their characters, each of them will represent one of the legendary rooms at Space. Beat is always accelerated, with his hyperactivity he is the equivalent of rhythm and is represented by the Terrace of the club, where the more electronic rhythms will be sounding. His partner Raw, on the other hand, is totally wild and unpredictable. He will be represented by the Main Room, where there will be live performances and concerts. These two “parts” will not only be played out in the DJ cabins, accompanying the most exciting artists of the moment – they also intend to move around and interact with the public, as well as wander Ibiza’s beaches throughout the summer. Always surrounded by the most beautiful girls, Beat & Raw will discover their vocation as rabble-rousers ready to give it all to get the audience going.

The opening date of this special party, to be held every Friday, will be the 6th of July, ending on 21st September, and there are already several impressive names confirmed. With a totally eclectic sense, fusing from hip hop and R&B to techno, via pop or drum & bass, the party will kick off on the opening night with performances from the legendary Californian hip hop group Cypress Hill, who will be joining the mythical hip hop group, Violadores del Verso, as well as DJs Jekey and Allan Ramirez, while dub step will be represented by Dub Elements and Don Diablo. Also at Beat & Raw will be the American duo Thievery Corporation, representing the most elegant electronic downtempo, Digitalism, the indie group The Temper Trap, and Jaguar Skills, the terrorist of dubstep, and one of the residents raring to go in the terrace dj cabin.

The line-up for the opening will be the following:

MAIN ROOM:

Cypress Hill

Violadores del Verso

DJ Jekey

Allan Ramirez (Resident DJ Beat & Raw)

SPACE TERRACE:

            Dub Elements

            Don Diablo

Other artists confirmed to date include: the legendary Front 242, The Subs, D-Formation, and Oscar L, among many others that we will be revealing in the coming weeks.

Throughout the summer, the Main Room will be hosted by Doctor Music, one of the biggest concert promotion companies in Spain, this year celebrating 30 years of business. Doctor Music has organized over 2.000 concerts, including the famous Doctor Music Festival, a pioneering concept introduced in Spain by Neo Sala that went on to become a milestone in the history of pop culture in the country. Living on in the memories of many, almost fifteen years later, is Doctor Music Festival’s line-up:

David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Rage Against The Machine, Blur, Pulp, Suede, Beastie Boys, Patti Smith, Steve Winwood, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Bad Religion, David Byrne, Moby, Neneh Cherry, Pet Shop Boys, Muse, Beck, Placebo, Portishead, Underworld and Massive Attack were just some of the almost four hundred artists who performed on the legendary festival’s different stages.

Born in 2008 - as a result of organizing the Doctor Loft 05:00 Festival, a new and original proposal, surprising not only in its format (26 hours non-stop starting at 5 am), but also in the mix of concerts by such acclaimed artists as R.E.M., Iggy Pop, or The Gossip, with the most up-to-date clubbing scene and the best DJs worldwide (Deep Dish, Jeff Mills or Felix Da Housecat among many others) - DOCTORMUSIC.dj, the promoter’s most recent project, is focused on DJ management, as well as promotion and distribution of their work all over the world and the conceptualization of new electronic music events.

#Privilege Ibiza presents for their Sunday “Don't Let Daddy Know

 “

Don’t Let Daddy Know – DLDK - arrive in force with the intention of ruling Sundays in Ibiza. For this purpose they have chosen to take up presidency in the biggest club in the world, #Privilege.

DLDK will present an #ecletic mix of the best in #Live & #House music, a true musical of styles, presenting an exquisite selection of the best in #groovy, #electro, #hiphop, & #dubstep.

DLDK promises to take the #clubber on an adventure with artists such as Lil Jon or the impressive Nicki Minaj ( Live), Wiz Khalifa (live) and other unique Live acts.

DJs support will be provided by such heavyweights as Steve Aoki, Sidney Samson, Bassjackers, Sam vox.

More acts and djs will be confirmed soon!
Ssssst, DLDK…

Last minute! Orbital strikes it live at Space Opening Fiesta #Ibiza 2012

Prepare yourself for one of the biggest pioneers in electronic music.

Orbital, the masters of machine-made symphonies to move you emotionally will be lighting up the stage at Space Opening Fiesta 2012 with their stunningly unique bolts of sound.

In an electrifying and exclusive live set, Orbital – brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll - are back with an unbelievable bang this year as they explode on to the scene not only with an appearance at Space Ibiza, but the release of the first new album in eight years.

Appropriately titled Wonky, this new album is as irresistible as it is richly melodic and veteran and new fans alike will be over the moon to hear deeply emotive electronic at its best – a collection of new tracks and reworked diamonds. Put this concept being played live on the Space stage, surrounded by thousands of music hungry fans desperate to hear their heroes play rapturous new tracks, and you’ve got yourself another huge reason to get yourself along to one of the best parties in the world.

The single track Wonky was Orbital’s biggest dancefloor success in 2011 and when Orbital kicked out this slightly bizarre and genius mix with a rap smash vocal that envelopes any listener into dancing with their hands up and head down, the reaction from the crowd determined their decision to make this the sure fire title for the album.

Orbital were formed in the late 80s in the brothers’ hometown of Sevenoaks, London, close to the circular M25 motorway which inspired their name. It was in 2004, after seven albums, numerous film soundtracks and original compositions under their belt and more than 15 years working together, that they decided to take a break and work on solo projects.

But demand for their legendary live sets became too great and they bounced back on to the circuit in 2009. Following the unbelievable response the comeback performances received, the brothers decided it was the right time to create another album.

Like any path to success, the making of this was definitely not a straight forward process as they veered off the path of their emotional music road map many times – but eventually they completed the journey.

Refreshed and ready to spin their heart-tugging harmonies, woozy vocal layers and twists on every beat to make them completely eclectic, Orbital say they can’t wait to unleash their live set in Ibiza at Space Opening Fiesta 2012.

Don’t miss it.

#RICHIE HAWTIN confirms first solo #IBIZA residency with the introduction of ENTER. at Space on Thursdays.

Richie Hawtin presents ENTER.

Music. Sake. Technology. Experience.

“ENTER. will be a point of entry into new experiences: from new music and DJs through to technology and the Sake we introduce people to”

– Richie Hawtin

RICHIE HAWTIN has confirmed he will launch his first solo residency on the island of Ibiza – with the introduction of his new visionary ENTER. concept. Hawtin will take over Thursday nights at the award-winning club Space in Playa d’en Bossa for 12 weeks (July 5 to September 20), curating four rooms built on the principles of music, sake, technology and experience.  Hawtin and ENTER. will also collaborate with underground nightKehakuma to form ENTER.Kehakuma on the famed Space Terrace – a night already established as an incubator of emerging and defining electronic talent.

Hawtin has a strong history with the island of Ibiza thanks to his long-term contribution and association with Sven Väth’s Cocoon creation at Amnesia. Hawtin feels now is the time to make his own statement on the island, to provide a new platform for the artists and music he supports, and to lead Ibiza into the island’s next phase of development and innovation.

Richie Hawtin states: “After an incredible and life-defining relationship with Sven and the Cocoon family on the island, I felt the time was right to develop my own vision on what an Ibiza experience might be. Ibiza is a destination for people from all walks of life looking to escape and celebrate.  This year we will give people an entry into a world that connects many of the things that I love: music, technology, Japanese sake, art, entertainment and design. As Ibiza is a crossroads of people from all over the world, ENTER. will be a crossroads of experiences!”

ENTER. is based on the following principles:

MUSIC.

Hawtin will play each and every week from the center of the ENTER. experience, within an augmented version of Space’s main room surrounded by new structural lighting installations and technologies. Hawtin will curate the entire ENTER. line-up featuring M-NUS artists, friends, collaborators and like-minded individuals on each floor including ENTER.Sake and ENTER.Air (Space’s rooftop terrace). Hawtin will collaborate with Space on the line-ups for the main Terrace now dubbed ENTER.Kehakuma – bringing his own selection of artists to an already established hotbed of emerging electronic talent.

SAKE.

ENTER.Sake is the island’s first true Sake Bar experience - an intimate Japanese inspired room with surprise DJ sets from major guests starting each Thursday at 10pm. For the first time, the official pre-party is in the actual club itself. Hawtin, himself a trained Sake sommelier and a huge fan of Japanese culture, is personally importing the Sake from Japan, recruiting the staff and working with renowned mixologist on the special Japanese Sake & Shochu based cocktail menu.

It has been said of Hawtin, “to truly understand this man, you need to understand his love and obsession with Japan”.

TECHNOLOGY.

Each room within the ENTER. concept will be touched by technology; from live Internet feeds, to visualizations of music & sound, to the interactive installations of the transformed Sunset Terrace – now titled, ENTER.Interakt. This will be a new sensory experience beyond music involving cutting edge technologies and ideas.

EXPERIENCE.

Richie Hawtin states:

“As electronic music continues to develop around the world it becomes more important to invite people into its very core, where music, technology and ideas interplay to create unique and wonderful new worlds. Ibiza is the perfect place to further explore my event concepts that have been developing since the early Warehouse parties I threw in Detroit and more recently with CONTAKT & Plastikman Live. It is my hope that by combining many different elements together I can heighten the experience of the audience and place a significant memory into their subconscious. Ibiza is the perfect location for continuing this long-term experiment and ambition of mine.”
